Welcome
Welcome to the Great Managers MasterClass on how to increase productivity with the power of Recognition.
In this session I’m going to cover:
- How to provide purpose-based recognition to increase productivity, including a structure for a recognition system in your organisation.
Purpose-based Recognition
So let’s have a look at Purpose-based Recognition.
Purpose-based recognition is linked to something important.
It’s recognition linked to something personally meaningful or organisationally meaningful, like your values and the culture that you’re trying to create. Or it’s the goals that you’ve set, like your strategic goals, operational goals, or it could even be something like what you want more of in the business.
Purpose-based recognition is a structured system. We love using systems at Great Managers!
Increase Productivity with Purpose-Based Recognition
Let me give you a few tips on how to provide Purpose-Based Recognition because there is a bit of an art to it.
Providing recognition can be very simple. You just need 60 seconds to do it, and there are three steps to providing Purpose-Based Recognition.
1. Describe their Actions.
When you’re recognising someone, you actually describe the action that they took, what they did well, and try to link that to your values or goals.
2. Describe the Results.
Describe the result or the impact of their action, or the consequence of their action, what happened as a result of what they did.
3. Thank them.
So it’s as simple as that. Action, Result and Thank them.
This creates remembrance and emotional experience. It’s a felt-phenomenon.
It only needs 60 seconds and just make sure, obviously, that it’s genuine and authentic.
Provide some recognition about every 7 days. We talk about our 3-to-1 ratio in the Great Managers Academy, where you provide at least three times as much positive feedback, recognition (and praise can be part of that), to corrective feedback.
That’s how you’ll build a strong team.
A team that will flourish!
